Greeting Cards
Guidelines for Participating in Greeting Cards:
Each participant will create five (5) greeting cards.
- Required Standards:
- To ensure cards stay together during judging and viewing, each participant’s cards must be submitted in a gallon-sized Ziploc bag. The following information must either be attached to the Ziploc bag or included on a 3×5 index card placed in the bag: the congregation’s name and the participant’s name, grade, and LTCSW ID.
- Exactly five (5) folded greeting cards must be submitted for consideration for a gold rating. Postcards are not permitted. Envelopes may be included but are not required.
- The participant’s name must be included discretely on the back of each greeting card so that submission sets can be reunited if the individual cards get separated.
- When closed, each card must fit within the dimensions of a 5×7 (A7), 4×6 (A6), or 3.5×5 (A1) card envelope.
- Die cut and non-traditional card shapes are permitted as long as they are within the size parameters.
- Materials:
- Cards should be made from heavyweight paper or cardstock. Use of construction paper will result in deductions. Each card should be sturdy enough for normal handling.
- Glitter is forbidden due to shedding. Non-shedding glitter or shimmer paper may be used. If it transfers in any way onto fingers when touched, there will be deductions.
- Stamps, stickers, tags, cutouts, die cuts, drawings, and other purchased or hand-made embellishments are all acceptable. Embellishments must be firmly affixed to the card.
- Neatness and Readability:
- All writing must be neat, legible, and large enough to be read easily.
- Writing may be computer-generated or hand-written. If hand-written, the writing instrument will impact scoring. A dark-colored fine or medium point pen should be used for readability. Crayons and broad-tipped markers are not generally suitable for card making and should not be used. Colored pencils may not show up well on cardstock.
- Writing must be high contrast to the paper. If the paper is dark, a white or light colored gel pen may be used.
- The message may be in another language if an English translation is included on the card itself or on an index card affixed to the back of the submitted card.
- Variety:
- Each of the 5 cards must be individually designed by the participant themselves.
- For consideration for a gold rating, at least two of the greeting cards must convey the LTC theme or another Biblical message via the artwork or sentiment.
- Creativity/Artistry:
- Artwork and embellishments must be visually pleasing, sized appropriately for the card, and related to the conveyed message.
- Card making is a message with artistry. Each greeting card must include space for a hand-written note inside the card.
